The Newitt Lecture
The annual Newitt Lecture was established in 1977 by Imperial College, London in commemoration of the work and achievements of Professor Dudley Newitt. Professor Newitt was a former lecturer and Head of Department at Imperial who played an essential role in shaping the Chemical Engineering Department into the success it is today. In addition, he also achieved great things as the director of scientific research at the UK's Special Operations Executive (SOE) - also known as the "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" during World War II. The Newitt Lecture is a celebration of the role of Chemical Engineers, with speakers in the recent past including Edward Davey (Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change) and Dame Judith Hackitt (Chief Executive of the HSE and former President of IChemE).
